Dog Training - A Chonological Approach

In order to give my posts a little more order, I am going to be approaching the next few posts focused on the initial training that every puppy should know. Starting with a puppy is a relatively easy way to train as a puppy, like a human child, learns more quickly than an adult.

Covering the basics should help those new dog owners out there. After this I will talk about specific problems you might find in rescues and adult dogs. The approaches with adult dogs can somewhat more complicated.

Keeping bored dogs busy.

Dogs are social creatures and require a certain amount of interaction and activity. People often forget that dogs are pack animals and need company. I would always suggest getting a companion animal for a dog if no one is going to be around the dog for long periods of time. Leaving a dog alone for long periods of time is a really bad idea. Dogs are pack animals. John Katz just wrote about this in a Slate magazine article entitled Poor Little Rich Dog.
