Customer Review: Less hokey and way more useful than other books out there!
After adopting a less than perfect young-adult dog of unknown heritage and environment (so adorably scruffy with just a little bit of rottenness!) from the MSPCA a few months ago, I decided to research the latest dog training theories at the library. I LOVE Karen Pryor, Trish McConnell, and the Monks of New Skete, and just wanted to build on their theories with any other new ideas. Unfortunately, it is very easy to find books by people who call themselves authorities but who have some seriously wacky ideas. I liked this one enough to order it from Amazon! Very common sensical in nature with some fun stuff to keep any dog owner entertained. Bert is a super fast learner, which makes this book even more fun. Good luck and remember to have a good time!

Crate Training Your Dog (Storey Country Wisdom Bulletin, a-267)

Crate Training Your Dog (Storey Country Wisdom Bulletin, a-267) Customer Review: Crate Training
This booklet is not worth the money. There was nothing helpful beyond common sense. Save your dollars for a box of bisquits.

Cadaver Dog Handbook: Forensic Training and Tactics for the Recovery of Human Remains

Cadaver Dog Handbook: Forensic Training and Tactics for the Recovery of Human Remains Cadaver Dog Handbook sets out the principles and procedures for the training and handling of dogs for the location of human remains. It explains scent theory and its applications, introduces basic training and searching strategies/tactics, and covers the legal and taphonomic issues associated with dog searches. Intended for those who train and handle cadaver dogs, this book also encompasses information for those who work closely with them, such as police, death investigators, and anthropologists. Its interdisciplinary approach is useful to any member of a forensic team who regularly participates in or evaluates the results of the human remains search effort.
Customer Review: Great book

Customer Review: if you like German Shepherds...
This is a really good book. But, if you don't have a German Shepherd than you still might want to look elsewhere. The book can absolutely teach you a lot but the concentration on GSDs will likely grate on you. The bias is such that there is no mention of the fact that the public tends to be frightened of German Shepherds, and that Labradors and Goldens can do the work just as well without the unfair but widespread stigma of Shepherds. Or that Retrievers excel at this work BECAUSE they are retrievers and because they genuinely adore people! Anyway, it REALLY does have a lot of good information, I just can't give it five stars because there are lots of great breeds in the world, many of which are suitable for SAR work. Why discount and ignore them?
